What is PHGSA?

A: 

It is a not for profit organization formed for the sole purpose of providing a structure for girls to get to know, understand and play the game of softball.  It is operated solely by volunteers to promote the character and friendship building organized team sports can bring.

The association is governed by a board of directors and By-laws.  Board positions are open each year for election.

How are league rules determined?

A: 

The Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA) is the governing body for our league, with modifications as appropriate.

What are the age groups?

A: 

Slow Pitch (In-House League) age as of August 1st

  • 6 - 8 Mighty Mites
  • 9 - 10 Juniors
  • 11 - 14 Intermediates
  • 15 - 19 Seniors

Fast Pitch (Travel League) age as of January 1st
  • 10 & under
  • 12 & under
  • 15 & under
  • 18 & under


Q: 

What is a typical season?

A: 

Sign-ups, try-outs and team draft are usually run from February to mid-March. Teams are formed mid-March and practices may begin. Opening day is typically first weekend in May and the season is usually complete by end of June. Tournaments typically run through July.

Where are the games played?

A: 

Most slow pitch games are played at Penn Hills Park which has a concession stand and both fields have lights. Sometimes Universal fields may be used.
